Tshukudu Private Game Reserve borders the world renowned Greater Kruger National Park and combines home comforts with the exciting Big 5 safari experience (Lion, Rhino, Elephant, Leopard and Buffalo). Tshukudu where exclusivity is assured covers 3800ha of prime Bushveld and is situated close to Hoedspruit in the Limpopo Province.

Each of the spacious air-conditioned chalets/rondawels/family units/luxury tents are named after the raised and rehabilitated animals of Tshukudu.

Provision has been made in certain units to accommodate the access of wheelchairs facilitating the disabled or elderly.

Each en-suite unit is equipped with a shower, minibar, coffee and tea-making facilities as well as a safe. Amenities are replenished daily. Hairdryers and international plugs can be obtained from the Reception desk.

The Lodge

Bush Walks

Each day guests are offered the opportunity to experience our Nature Reserve on foot. Bush Walks provide a unique opportunity for nature lovers and adventure seekers to experience the amazing African wildlife up close. Each bush walk is led by a highly qualified, enthusiastic, Game Guide ensuring guests safely experience this unique experience.

Depending on their age, young children will join in open game drive vehicles for safety reasons. Guests will kick-start the day with steaming hot coffee and homemade rusks, before venturing out at around 6:30 am. At around 8:00 am guest return to sit down to a sumptuous breakfast buffet.

Game Drives

Our highly skilled Game Guides will accompany guests in the morning and early evening in open 4x4 game drive vehicles. Their extensive knowledge and training ensures that your game experience will be unforgettable, exciting and informative. This private reserve is known for its close encounters with a vast variety of game including the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino). In addition, all game drives on the reserve coordinate their game viewing activities which ensure the best of sightings. Halfway through the early evening game drive there's a stop for sundowners and snacks, before returning to the lodge at around 7:00 pm, with enough time to freshen up before sitting down to a buffet dinner served in the open air boma (weather permitting).

Activity time table will vary in summer and winter months.

General Information

1. Keep clothing colours as neutral and as light as possible, so you blend in better with the surrounding environment. Khaki, beige, brown and green are generally best, as darker and brighter colours attract unwanted mosquitoes and insects.
2. During certain times of the year malaria may be more prevalent in certain areas and we therefore suggest a mosquito repellent like Peaceful Sleep or something similar. Alternatively contact your local GP regarding the necessity of malaria prophylaxis.
3. A pair of comfortable walking shoes for bush walks or when off the game drive vehicle.
4. Meals are informal, so smart attire is not required.
5. Please pack a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, flashlight and binoculars.
6. Electricity at Tshukudu is a 220-volt alternating current system. Wall plug units take a round two-prong European plug. It is advisable to bring the necessary converter or adapter from your home country, should you need to charge cameras or laptops. Alternatively, international adaptors are available at the Reception Desk.
7. Remember to pack your camera as well as a video camera, along with all the necessary plugs, chargers and memory cards needed.
8. There is a Wi-Fi hotspot in the general public area of the veranda and reception.
9. Cellular phones work in most areas of South Africa and also in certain areas within the reserve, although it is not permitted to take cellular phones on game drive vehicles as they are considered an intrusion
10. All our units are supplied with amenities such as soap, shower gel and shampoo. You may, however, wish to bring your favourite toiletries with you.
11. The lodge offers a laundry service at a nominal additional rate.

Terms and Conditions:

1. All stay over guests will be required to provide positive ID when checking in and a copy of the ID document / passport / birth certificate will be made for record purposes. Please ensure that you have the necessary documents with you on arrival.
2. Please make use of the on-line booking system or alternatively contact us in writing via e-mail.
3. Quoted in Rand (ZAR), subject to change and inclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT) at 14%
4. A once off Conservation Levy per person will be added to all confirmed bookings.
5. Children 4 - 12 yrs pay half price of the adult rate quoted
6. The child rate only applies to children under the age of 12 years when sharing with adults.
7. All guests will be required to sign an indemnity form on arrival.
8. Children under the age of 12 years are permitted on bush walks and game drives at the sole discretion of the Game Guide.
9. No pets are allowed.
10. All guests will be required to settle their accounts for extras, telephone calls, beverages, laundry, etc. on departure. This can be done by credit card or local currency notes.

Deposits, Settlements and Cancellations

1. To secure your booking a 50% deposit is required within 48 hours of confirming the reservation.
2. Additional Deposit Fees will be levied on all cash deposit payments and foreign exchange transfers.

How to get here:

By Road

Hoedspruit is easily accessed by major routes. The Reserve is situated approximately 3 km out of Hoedspruit on the R40, and then it is another 6 km on a dirt road that is well maintained for use by any type of vehicle, to get to the Main Lodge Reception.

By Air

SA Express operates daily flights to and from Johannesburg and Cape Town.
